Journeying with the Psychopomp
It's Virgo season, Mercury and Venus are retrograde, and there's a full Moon on Wednesday. This is your reminder to breathe.
The Sun entered Virgo August 23rd illuminating the mutable earth sign until September 23rd. Virgo marks the winding down of summer and shifting of seasons. There’s a sadness to this time of year, and Virgo teaches acceptance of change. Virgo is the home and exaltation of Mercury also known as Hermes. Hermes is a divine messenger, trickster, and psychopomp guiding departed souls to the underworld.
This Virgo season we’re invited to journey inward and contemplate the season coming to an end. Mercury stationed retrograde August 23rd backtracking through Virgo until September 15th.  Mercury invites us to review the details of the past in service of learning and integration.
Mercury retrograde has me reflecting upon this past season. One of the most enchanting summers of my life. I feel a deep sense of belonging and purpose. My community has grown, and I’ve found more members of my soul family. I’ve fallen in love with the natural beauty of Wisconsin hiking, biking, and camping through her forests, trails, and parks. Will and I celebrated one year living in Milwaukee, and next August we’ll be married here. My roots grow deeper with my ancestors’ guidance, and I find synchronicity everywhere I look. To borrow a quote from Shari, who I enjoyed a riveting cosmic coffee chat with last week, I am living a charmed life!
My life is charmed because I’ve chosen to take the steps to live a life full of joy and meaning. I’ve worked hard to heal my insecurities and traumas. I’m present with the wounds of my inner child and teen. I’m doing the uncomfortable work of breaking patterns of burnout and saviorism. I’m learning to be bold and direct with my needs and boundaries. These practices are my journey into the underworld to come home to myself.
Where is the psychopomp guiding you this Virgo season? What underworld journey are you embarking upon? What phase or season is coming to an end? What needs to be reviewed, revised, and reconsidered? How can you create more space for contemplation and rest?
As Mercury retrograde turns us inwards and backwards, our internal world is illuminated by the full Moon in Pisces on August 30th. I consider Virgo and Pisces the healing axis of the zodiac. Wednesday’s full Moon may illuminate aspects of our healing journeys, and both Virgo and Pisces have medicine to share. Â
Virgo is a healer of the body and Earth. A lover of processes, rituals, and routines in service of health and wellness. Virgo breaks down, composts, and purifies. Due to their earthy Mercurial nature, they are practical, analytical, and critical of institutions, other people, and themselves. Virgo wounds may include physical ailments of the body, self-limiting beliefs of the mind, or expectations of perfection exacerbated by a harsh inner critic.
Pisces is a healer of the emotional and spiritual bodies. The vastness of the ocean and the oneness of all beings. Pisces is interconnection and the threads of fate tethering us together. Creative and dreamy, they hope for a brighter future. Pisces wounds stem from their highly sensitive, empathic nature. They feel everything deeply which is a blessing and curse in a world full of oppression and suffering. Â
This full Moon in Pisces is colored by Mercury and Venus retrograde dredging up memories and wounds of the past. The Moon in Pisces is expansive, intuitive, and deeply feeling. However, conjunct Saturn we may compartmentalize, judge, and restrict what needs to be felt. This full Moon feels harsh so please be gentle with yourself.
The astro weather is intense to say the least, and if you need someone to talk to, I’m here. No cost cosmic coffee chats are available on Friday’s, and you can schedule one here. Thank you, Evelyn and Shari for your company and lovely conversations last week! I love this growing community and hope to meet or reconnect with more of you soon.
Finally, I updated my website with my availability for September. I offer Map of the Soul and Moon Goddess readings, and my website includes descriptions. Since launching Mystic Magnolia Astrology seven months ago, I’ve conducted 33 astrology readings! This last month I’ve felt a major shift in how I read charts. My intuition is heightened, and I’m deeply in tune with the celestial spheres. I now read charts in a more embodied and holistic way. When sitting with a chart, I receive a glimpse of my client’s soul, and when we meet magic happens. I love hearing your stories, hopes, dreams, and struggles. Your lived experiences bring the chart alive, and I’m here to guide you towards loving relationship with yourself and the cosmos. I’d love to read for you this Virgo season and invite you to schedule a reading today.   Â
Sending you all my love this Moon day! May you find comfort and rest.
Loved this musing, Emily! My birthday arrives in a few short minutes and it feels like fate that I am reading this as I welcome in year 28. Thank you, as always, for sharing your magic with us. Looking forward to catching my breath soon and reconnecting with you, my soul family!! 💖
