Next, in our review of the astrology of 2023, my favorite time of year spring! I was born during the reign of tulips, daffodils, and magnolia blossoms. I feel alive when the world turns green again. This spring, I celebrated 30 revolutions around the Sun. I explored my creativity, writing my first zine and participating in a community poetry project. Will and I planted our first garden and learned about native plants. I biked, hiked, and camped, falling more in love with Wisconsin.
Spring March 20th – June 21st, 2023
Pluto in Aquarius: March 23rd – June 11th
Solar Eclipse in Aries: April 19th
Mercury retrograde in Taurus: April 21st – May 14th
Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio: May 5th
Jupiter in Taurus: May 16th
The astrology of spring began with Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto is the outermost and slowest moving planet, representing transformation on a generational scale. Aquarius is nonconformist, innovative, and rebellious. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was 1777 – 1798 coinciding with the French Revolution (1789 – 1799), the Haitian Revolution (1791 – 1804), and the founding of the New York Stock & Exchange Board. Pluto in Aquarius demands we open our minds, widen our perspectives, and see the humanity in everyone. May we make great strides toward collective liberation over the next 20 years.
Spring brought the first eclipse season of the year with a solar eclipse in Aries on April 19th, followed by a lunar eclipse in Scorpio on May 5th. Between the eclipses, Mercury stationed retrograde in Taurus on April 21st, ending May 14th. The April 19th eclipse was the first in a series on the Aries-Libra axis, while May 5th was the final Scorpio eclipse in a series on the Taurus-Scorpio axis. In astrology, eclipses are powerful. They tend to align with major turning points or unexpected events. It’s important to note not every eclipse is life-altering. The individual impact of eclipses depends on their relationship to the natal chart.
The solar eclipse in Aries marked a new beginning, especially for those with planets or angles (ASC, MC, DSC, IC) at 22° - 30° of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn. If you have your Sun, Moon, or rising sign here, what’s transformed since April 19th? What was set in motion to create space for something new? What is emerging?
The lunar eclipse in Scorpio marked a significant culmination. It was the final Scorpio eclipse in a cycle initiated January 2022 when the lunar nodes entered Taurus and Scorpio. Again, this eclipse impacted those with planets or angles (ASC, MC, DSC, IC) at 8° - 20° of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, or Aquarius. If you have these placements in your natal chart, what was building up throughout 2022 that came to fruition in spring 2023? What illuminated? What ended?Â
On May 16th, Jupiter entered Taurus, and it was a memorable day. Lizzo is one of my favorite artists, and she has the Sun, Jupiter, and Mercury in Taurus in her 10th house of ambitions, purpose, and public reputation. Her Milwaukee tour date was May 16th, marking the first day of her Jupiter return. I wanted to see her perform, but it wasn’t in the cards financially. However, two days before the show, I received a text. My cousin had an extra ticket and invited me to go! I could not believe my luck! Jupiter in Taurus has been profound, and you can read my newsletter about it here.
Thanks for reflecting on the astrology of 2023 with me, and I’d love to hear from you! What’s coming up? What shifts and transformation did you go through this year? Reply via email or leave a comment.
Wishing everyone a fun and safe New Year’s Eve! Tonight, I’m staying in and pulling a 2024 tarot spread and making a vision board. I love these intuitive practices to feel into the year-ahead. I’ll be back later this week with the astrology of summer and fall.
